The Silk Thread by Kim Vogel Sawyer
The Silken Thread by Kim Vogel Sawyer takes place in Atlanta , Georgia in 1895. It is an historical fiction book. There are many social issues at that time. The main character Laurel Millard is the youngest of 7 children. She has been told she will live with her mother and take care of her by her siblings. She wants to get married and have a family. There is an Exposition coming to Atlanta and they were hiring for the Exposition. Laurel applied to work in the silk room. Several other characters applied also to work in the Exposition. Willie and Quincy applied to work as security guards. Willie needs to help pay for his Dad's care in the convalescent home. All of these characters get the job at the Exposition in Atlanta. Langdon Rochester is from a very wealthy family. He was told by his parents to straighten up his life and find a girl to marry so He can get his inheritance. Langdon acts arrogant and often rude to others especially African Americans and those of lower classes. Langdon takes a liking to Laurel. Langdon thinks He can get her to be his wife just because He is in the upper wealthy class. Willie is just friends with Laurel. He is kind, and walks in the ways of the Lord. Who will win Laurel's heart. ? The book shows the reader the conflicts at that time between blacks and whites in Atlanta and the Southern states. The book makes the reader think about the Christian values of right and wrong and how to treat people of different races. The book is well written. I appreciate the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book. It is a wonderful book and well written. I am not obligated to write a positive review.
